The company thrived for over 60 years as an independent entity. In 1890, Hakunetsu-sha s first manufacturing facility of electric incandescent lamps. Then in 1939, the two companies merged to become Tokyo Shibaura Denki. They were now an electric equipment manufacturer. The companys reputation was established rapidly and they soon became known simply as Toshiba. They made this official with the name change to Toshiba in 1978. Throughout the companys long life there have been many major inventions that have guaranteed them a place in history. Among these are the following worlds firsts: 1. 1967first automatic zip code reader 2. 1970first color video phone 3. 1986first laptop personal computers 4. 1995developed high-density optical disc, DVD They have remained successful for many years because of their ability to stay on top of the world of technology. This is no small feat. Numerous companies have been lost because of a rapidly changing technology market that most were unable to keep up with the pace. With a resume of inventions spanning more than 120 years, a solid financial history and their status of being a multinational corporation, where does Toshiba go from here? Can they continue to keep up the pace of the past with the technology market changing more each and every day? What can they do to maintain their current level of success without compromising their values and commitment to the global society? To sum up all these questions: Whats next for Toshiba? Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that isdetestable.-Leviticus 18:22. According to the Bible same-sex marriages would be immoral and sinful. Beinggay and loving another person is certainly not illegal, but uniting that couple in marriage isnot only rejected by most of society but also by Judaism, Christianity and Islam. As aChristian I find same-sex marriages unacceptable, but I know that not all people believe inthe Bible and we do have freedom of religion in the US . Courts in Hawaii would not allow same-sex marriages and that is now beinglooked at as unconstitutional. Not allowing the marriages discriminates against certaingroups that are United States citizens and that is unconstitutional. Even though I dont approve of same-sex marriages, according to our laws there isreally no reason why the marriages shouldnt take place. But I do think there should belimitations. Marriages of the same-sex should not involve children. There is no naturalway that two people of the same-sex could possibly have children of their own and shouldnot be given custody of a child or the ability to adopted a child. Governor Wilson, California republican is proposing to ban Second-parentadoptions, which in the past have been approved. These regulations would require maritalstatus to be given to the Department of Social Services. I don't believe that gay parents will cause such a child to be gay. But all thingsbeing equal, I do believe that child is being deprived of crucial, necessary two-sexingredients essential in parenting. That it takes a man a nd a woman to produce that thirdperson is the most basic proof that a child needs both a mommy and a daddy. Children who have parents of the same-sex would be unbearable harassed by otherchildren and considered an outcast. An innocent child put in a situation that would beemotionally stressful for most of their youth-there is no need. Just imagine what a childwould go through. Billy, which one of your dads wore the dress in the wedding? orSuzy, which one of your moms is coming to the mother-daughter picnic? Why put kidsin an environment that is not morally or socially acceptable in todays society? Being gay should never result in being harassed, hated or hurt. But sadly, beinggay also should never mean being able to marry or adopt. Everything in life has a price.Being childless is a high price. But a child's basic needs must always supersede the desiresof an adult. Children must always come before self. 4 Tips for Writing Effectively, Concisely and Truthfully On November 20, I was featured in the article English Essay Tips from the Experts, a compilation of writing tips from several experts. These tips are valid for anyone writing any type of letter or essay. Remember them as you compile holiday letters and college application essays in the upcoming weeks! #1: Think First. Write Last. Sometimes when people don’t like writing, the actual problem is that they are having trouble thinking. Frequently I’ll work with a client on an essay the person has been struggling with for weeks. One client this past week, for instance, had been through seven revisions of his law school application essay and still wasn’t satisfied with the result. What he needed was not writing help so much as a conversation with a coach who could focus him on a strategy and theme that worked. He needed help thinking. As soon as he had his new outline, he rewrote the essay, completed two revisions, and finalized the essay in just one week. Erin Brenner, a publishing professional, copyediting professor and editor of copyediting.com, makes the important point that writing is the last step in the writing process. First, the writer must gather and organize information; once those steps are taken, writing can be a breeze. #2: Stick to the Point! Another challenge for writers can be going on tangents or including unnecessary details. Test prep expert Alexis Avila cuts to the chase on this issue with his tip that any â€Å"sentence that doesn’t fit under Thesis / Evidence / Transition† can be cut from an essay. Of course, to know whether a sentence fits under Thesis / Evidence / Transition, you need to be clear about what the purpose is of each of your paragraphs! So Tip #1 from Erin Brenner is part and parcel of this one. #3: Active Language Wins Do you ever get the vague feeling that your writing is too wordy but you’re not sure exactly why? I believe the first place to look is at passive vs. active construction (e.g., The car was moving fast down the street vs. The car sped down the street.) Mignon Fogarty, a.k.a. Grammar Girl, points out that the use of â€Å"of†- especially when it follows a â€Å"tion† word- can give you a clue about what to change. If you wrote something like, â€Å"The creation of paper snowflakes took the children hours† you would do well to change it to â€Å"The children spent hours creating paper snowflakes.† See the difference? Feel free to use this trick in your holiday writing! #4: Tell the Truth! This tip from me- Brenda Bernstein, The Essay Expert- makes writing a lot easier for anyone who thinks they need to â€Å"sound good.† If that’s you, stop it! Instead, tell the truth about your struggles and pain if that’s what you’ve been dealing with. And then tell the truth about your victories. No one is interested in how you’ve always known what you know now; we want to know how you grew. When I get to my clients’ real stories, they inevitably express a sense of relief and gain energy to start writing. People who were stuck suddenly can’t wait to start putting words on paper. Critique/ analysis It is important for the United States government to review its national debt ceiling. This is not only important in terms of meeting its financial obligations, but also because of the fact that the level of consumption and government expenditure would go up. According to the Keynesian economists, there is a positive relationship between consumption within an economy and economic growth. Therefore, increasing the limit relating to the level of the national debt would substantially contribute towards the growth of the economy. Both consumption and the government expenditure would go up. Through the multiplying effect an increase in government expenditure or consumption, would result in more than proportionate growth in the level of the gross domestic product. On the other hand, if the government would not review its debt ceiling, consumption and government expenditure would go down, and through a multiplying effect, the GDP would go down by more than proportionate. The article focuses on the short-term solution of the national debt crisis. However, it does not focus on the long-term solutions to the crisis. Although it is important for the government to revise the ceiling, this would only be in the short-run. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde Essay Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest is about a young man who leads a double life, in whenever he wants to escape the reality, along with his obligations and real-life dealings. The story is not just about the life of the young man, Jack, also known as Ernest, but it is also about taking life in a more serious way. In order to do so, Oscar Wilde has reformed or improved the parts of life that he has satirized in the story. One aspect which Wilde has reformed in the story was in the life of Jack/Ernest. He is described as a seemingly responsible and respectable young man. He is also well-off, as he owns a country estate. But at some time in the story, it was found out that Jack was an adopted child, and that he was found in a handbag by the train station. Jack’s past and his present life is so ironic that it effectively builds up his character. It is both amusing and surprising that for a baby who was supposedly left alone in a train station would be able to survive and be successful when he grows up. Jack have almost everything that he desires, wealth, fame among those who know him, love in the person of Gwendolen; so who would ever think that a person like him was adopted as he was abandoned in the train station as a child? Oscar Wilde reformed Jack/Ernest character in order to make the story much more interesting. Despite his somewhat unlikely past, he is now a wealthy man, leading a happy life. If his character wouldn’t be reformed or improved, he wouldn’t be rich or attractive, following the fact that he was an abandoned child. The interesting part of the story though is not his rags-to-riches life; instead it was his double life that he leads, in the form of Ernest. Another one Wilde’s reform to the character he was satirizing was when the issue of marriage was introduced in the story. Jack Worthing is in love with Gwendolen Fairfax, and so is Gwendolen to Jack. But the problem is that Gwendolen fell in love with Jack because of her fixation to the name Ernest. Jack introduced himself to Gwendolen as Ernest for her to love him, but he still has to face his problem, as Gwendolen intends to marry only the man whose name is Ernest. Oscar Wilde reformed Jack’s character by actually trying to become Ernest: his alter ego that he uses as a scapegoat to preserve his morality as Jack Worthing. For Jack, the name Ernest is his way to keep an honorable image in place. By using Ernest, Jack is able to escape his real life, as he is bound by duties and obligations, as well as a reputation he must protect. Ernest actually provides Jack with an excuse he conveniently uses whenever he wants to do things that he can do when he is under his real identity. It is also his disguise, as Jack wants to remain being seen as upright and moral, and with Ernest as his mask, he is able to misbehave. His character is reformed when it was the time for him to make the choice: to be Ernest or be Jack. It was love that drove him to that deciding corner, as Gwendolen was evidently in love with him being Ernest, and he is not sure if she would still love him if he is Jack. In the end, Jack apologized to Gwendolen, which she returns with forgiveness, saying that she did so because she is sure that Jack would change to make up for his mistakes. The Importance of Being Earnest is Oscar Wilde’s way of satirizing the general tolerance for hypocrisy in the Victorian concept of morality, and this is shown by the character Jack Worthing. He wants to adhere with notions of duty, honor, and respectability, yet he lives a double life, Ernest, hypocritically flouting those notions.

When I chose to attend any university I knew I wanted to live in a good Christian environment where the word of God was believed and practiced through the classroom. My entire family had gone to major public universities, but I knew that I needed a good sound environment without all the distractions one would see at a public institution. Now that I’m here, I know it is going to take hard work on my part to accomplish my degree in whatever field I choose. In order to survive here at a higher learning institution, I will need sacrifice some social, physical, and emotional things will be hinging on whether I succeed or not.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  First off, there will be many social sacrifices that will arise at times. People will come to my door, doing there best to distract me while I’m doing homework. I will need to think over the situation, and either leave the room or ask them to leave. However, this will not be easy. To maintain an â€Å"edge† I will have to find times when not many people are around and get my work done at those times, instead of waiting till the last minute to do my work.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I will also have to make some physical sacrifices. There will be times when I am up till at least 1 or 2 in the morning, and have to get up for an Eight am class. I will just have to adjust to the fast paced schedule here at college. One thing I could do to solve a late night study session is to do the homework right when I get out of class.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The last sacrifice I plan to overcome will be emotional stress. Stress is one thing that many people today have troubles with, including myself. At school, stress can and will build up. At a Christian institution, they will expect me to keep on spiritual issues such as daily devotion and prayer. Finding times to do this will only enhance my personal relationship with Christ.
